Google Play Store

Forums:

  • Filtering policy

Good Afternoon,

I have set up my daughter's account on her Nexus 7 with Elementary School filtering. I want to allow her to look around the Google Play Store App on her Nexus 7, but it keeps getting blocked. When I look at the reports it tells me that it's categorized as Porn. Obviously I want to block Porn, but I want to allow her access to the Play Store. How do I resolve this issue?

Thanks

Re: Play Store access

Hello Nick,
Please note that Mobicip locks Google Play store by default. You can unblock it through Mobicip app restrictions - Browser Menu > Settings > Mobicip > App restrictions > uncheck Google Play store.

If Google Play store is left available in your kid's device, they can download any free browser from there and it totally voids the point of having a filtered browser. For instance, Google app is rated 4+ and is available for free. It acts as a browser and allows access to all kind of inappropriate content. This is an issue with almost all apps that have their own browsers. This is the reason why we recommend our users to disable Google Play store completely and make sure that Mobicip is the only window available for filtered internet access.

Our best recommendation at this point is to download the apps your kid wants and then turn off the Google Play Store. You can always re-enable it temporarily when your son/daughter wants to download other apps, and then lock it back again when he/she is done. At this time, that is the best way to ensure that no alternative browsers are installed without your knowledge.

Google Play on Chromebook blocked

I am having the same problem. Instead of the normal Play page, you get a page that says "We're sorry, the requested URL was not found on this server." If I disable Mobi, it works fine so it appears to be an issue with Mobi
