Default browser and cookies support

Llyd

By disabling Safari and the installation of new apps, Mobicip Safe Browser is the only default browser available on the device. However, if you mean the ability to launch Mobicip from other apps, like email for instance, it is a limitation that Apple has imposed. Third-party apps like Mobicip cannot be launched instead of Safari. We are hoping Apple will remove this restriction soon.

Mobicip will start supporting cookies in its next version. Any websites logged in will be remembered and you will not be required to sign in again. Please await the release of the new version, which should be available in 1-2 weeks.

Hope this answers your question.

Thanks

Re: Ability to launch mobcap from other apps- any update?

Unfortunately, we do not have any update on this ability yet, since the change has to be done at Apple's end. Apple's iPhone SDK doesn't allow third-party apps to be launched from other apps. Actually, their documentation suggests a method to make this work, and we have implemented it already. But due to a bug or some other unknown reason, this documented feature is not working. Other app developers have been complaining about this as well, and we expect Apple to start supporting this in their next major OS update.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused until the change happens.

Re: Ability to launch mobcap from other apps- any update?

It's been several years now--has this feature been implemented yet? It is a huge pain to have to copy and paste links from email and text messages, etc. If it has been enabled, I have not been able to figure out how to do it.

Re: Re: Ability to launch mobcap from other apps- any update?

Hello Scott,

Please note that the change has to be done at Apple's end and not us, like we mentioned in our previous post.

If Safari is disabled, links in emails or any other app will not work just the same. The problem is that when you disable Safari Mobile, iOS simply hides the Safari icon and does not delete Safari. So even though Mobicip has registered itself as a web browser application to iOS, Safari takes precedence and the request to open the link doesn't even come to Mobicip. Similarly, weblinks saved to the home screen of the device will not work either. We have mentioned this issue to Apple and requested support, but we haven't met with any response so far.

We understand that this is quite frustrating from a user experience standpoint, but unfortunately our hands are tied by the limitations imposed by iOS. The workaround we can suggest is to press down on the link in the email, select copy, tab the URL bar in the Mobicip browser, and select paste. It is a crude workaround, but it has been made somewhat easier with iOS4 where you can switch to Mobicip (assuming it is running in the background, that is) and paste the URL instantly.

You should certainly contact Apple and provide your feedback on this page:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/

We have met with their engineering team and support staff and their guidance is standard. The voice of the customer has more bearing than the voice of third-party developers like us, or even their employees. So your feedback will certainly bring attention to the issue.

Please let us know if this answers your question. Otherwise we will be happy to assist further.
