Children's site blocked

Forums:

  • Internet Safety Resources

My son was trying to get onto ytv.ca and family.ca which is a canadian children's television site (disney etc) and it was blocked.  I tried setting it to "middle school" thinking that might be the issue, but still he was unable to.  Please advise.

Re: Children's site blocked

Dear Spookycat,

We sincerely apologize for the trouble you are having. We have requested our filtering policy team to look into this issue and will get back to you with an update as soon as we hear from them. The websites are blocked under the categories 'Online games' and 'Games' which are the right categories for them based on their content. But, since they are 100% safe for kids at the elementary level, we have requested our filtering policy team to evaluate and move it to our whitelist for all three levels. We will keep you posted on any updates as soon as we hear from them.

Re: Children's site blocked

Our filtering policy team investigated all three websites - 'bratz.com', 'ytv.ca' and 'family.ca' and concluded that these websites belong to the 'Online games' and 'Games' category. Since our filtering engine is dynamic and filters content on websites based on the content at the time of access, the words/phrases on these websites automatically triggers our filter to block them at the elementary level. At this time, we suggest that you either change the filtering level to middle school to access these websites or add them to the 'whitelist' or 'allowed websites' so that the websites will be accessed directly without going through our filtering engine.

Please note that even when you allow the categories that these websites belong to, they still go through our dynamic filtering engine and our filter may  block them based on the content at the time of access, but when you add the websites to your whitelist, they will bypass our filter and your children will be able to access them without any filtering.

Re: access to www.bratz.com

We sincerely apologize for the delay in responding to your forum post. Please note that it may take up to 30-45 minutes for any change that you make on the web monitor to reflect on the device. So, your settings should work fine on the device now. Please try now and check if it works fine.

Also, another common error other parents run into is that they add websites in this format
http://www.bratz.com
www.google.com
If you allowed websites like this, it is not enough. You will need to allow the domain by adding
bratz.com
google.com
instead. Many sites do not use the www prefix anymore, especially for mobile versions of the site.

Please let us know if this resolved the issue. If the problem still persists, please let us know your Mobicip - registered email id or send an email to support@mobicip.com via your registered - email id and we will isolate the cause of the issue.

Re: access to www.bratz.com

We sincerely apologize for the trouble you are having. Our previous reply did not take into account that you made the change over a week ago and still the website was not accessible. We believe that even though you allowed the category that bratz.com fell into, the website was blocked by our dynamic filter which filters the websites based on the content at the time of access. Please note that by allowing a category, you still make sure that the website goes through our filter while by adding the website to your whitelist, you have unfiltered access to the website.

If you would like to allow your child to access the website, please go ahead and add the website to your 'Allowed websites' or 'whitelisted' websites. This will ensure that the website does not go through our filtering engine and will be completely accessible to your child. Please let us know if you still have issues by sending an email to Mobicip Support with your Mobicip registered email id and we will get the problem resolved asap.
