Hi.
(Apologies if this is in the wrong Forum group)
We have a 4th Gen iPod touch - Is there a way to remove or restrict access to the Mail and Messanger functions &/or allow access to these only through the Mobicip browser.
The Mobicip time restriction works great, but once it kicks in, my son can still hapily use these other 2 ways of being online for as long as he wishes.
Another restiction I'm battling with is the App Store - I have the 'Installing Apps' function turned off, and I wouldn't mind iTunes being available for 'browsing' purposes - but not at all times of the day and night - so I currently have iTunes turned off - much to my son's disapproval.
Any ideas appreciated.

Re: Blocking Messenger and email

You are right. Mobicip can only restrict the Internet access through the browser itself. The general assumption is that you will be able to ensure no other browser is installed on the device.
As for email, there are 2 parts to restricting it. The first step is to setup a safe email account for your child. For instance, Zoobuh offers a safe email service that also allows you to setup time restrictions on access. You can learn more at http://www.zoobuh.com/.
Once you have setup the account and followed their instructions to setup the iPod Touch's email client, you can go to the second step. The iOS platform allows you to lock your email setttings. Simply select Settings > General > Restrictions > Accounts > OFF as shown below.
As for messenger, we are not sure if this is Yahoo messenger or some other app. Simply delete the app from the device by holding your finger on the icon and touching the x. Once deleted, the app cannot be installed since you have already restricted the App Store. Now the only way to access Yahoo messenger would be through the Mobicip browser which is already time restricted.
It may be tough to block access to the App Store completely. You can probably allow access to the App Store temporarily for a few hours using your passcode, and lock it back again after reviewing what apps have been downloaded. There is no other solution to this problem. To enable/disable the App Store on the iPod, select Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps > ON/OFF.
Please let us know if this answers your questions. Otherwise we will be happy to assist further.
