Play apps on Chromebook

Forums:

  • Filtering policy

We have an ASUS Flipbook Chromebook, which now allows access to the Google Play Store and Android apps. On my parental Chromebook settings, I have an option "Enable Google Play Store on your Chromebook". I enabled this and downloaded an app. My daughter, a supervised user, does not see this app from Chrome. Her Chromebook settings also show the "Enable Google Play Store" option, but this option is disabled. (I understand that I don't want her to have access to the Play store itself.) Does Mobicip support use of Android apps by a supervised user on a Chromebook?

google play on chromebook

I was able to get google play to work on my son's chromebook when I'm logged into his computer on my google account.  When I try to access the google play store from his profile on the chromebook it won't let the google play app load.  What can I do to help google play work?

Re: google play on chromebook

Hello Andrea
Apologies for the delay. Can you please let us know the exact thing that happens when you try to load Google Play store? Does it display any error or block page? Or does it just stop loading? Please elaborate the exact steps and we will investigate further asap.

I have replied to this two times.  My problem is identical to the other person that just updated her issue.  I would really appreciate someone messaging me.

Behavior when access Play store

I wrote the original comment above for this thread. The settings option for the Google Play Store was not accessible (grayed) when we used my daughter's *school* account for the Chromebook. I created a new Google account for her for home use. Here is exactly what happens when we try to access the Play store on that account.

1. Go to Chrome Settings for her account. We see a section called "Google Play Store (beta)". There is a checkbox option "Enable Google Play store on your Chromebook". This option is accessible (not grayed). So we check the checkbox.

2. A window appears, "Google Play Store for Chromebook". A dialog box appears immediately, on top of the Google Play Store window. The dialog box says: "Authentication Required" "The proxy http://useastgp.mobicip.net requires a username and password. Your connection to this site is not private."  The dialog also shows two entry fields, for User Name and Password.

3. I enter the username and password for my Mobicip account. The dialog box goes away, and now the Google Play Store for Chromebook window from step two is on top. It says "Google Play Store now is on your Chromebook" "Choose from over a million apps..." Below this text is a status line that shows a blue section moving from left to right, as if it is waiting for some process to complete. However, the window never changes.

Google Play Store Issue

It is August of 2017 and I am having the exact issue that this thread is about. I could get the Google Play Beta to start, but then there was a popup from Mobicip asking for a username and password. I entered my information, but nothing happened, the Play Store progress bar just scrolled forever.

Solution: Un-enabling the extension allows the Store app to run. After I set it up the first time, which involved agreeing to various legal things, I enabled Mobicip again.

The Play Store runs now and for apps can be downloaded. I noticed too that the Wallpaper app wouldn't run before and now it does--it must have been connected to the Play Store issue. The Mobicip popup has not returned, so it must have been connected to the legalese you have to agree to.
