White Lists - Wildcards?

Are wildcards allowed in the whitelists? for example *cnn.com*, etc.?

Re: White Lists - Wildcards?

Yes, but the wildcard character itself is not required. For instance, if you add cnn.com to your whitelist, all variations of sites with cnn.com as the domain will be allowed.

Thanks for bringing this up. It is probably useful for other parents as well.

Re: what if I want the some

Yes, you can add

youtube.com

to your blacklist, and then add the specific URL for the videos that you want to allow, like

youtube.com/watch?v=xFkB4ZYg9xU

to your whitelist. The whitelist always takes precedence over the blacklist, so the specific video will be allowed but youtube overall will continue to be blocked.

I understand the wild cards

I understand the wild cards are implicit in your white/black lists. However, in all the examples that you show I see the .com at the end. What if I'm looking just for a keyword which is part of a URL? for example *manga*.* (this could be .com, .co, .us, .me, or anything else)? Would your filters still work if I simply put the word "manga" with no .com at the end?

Re: I understand the wild cards

Hello Tal
In your case, you can make use of our phrase filtering option rather than using website block-list. You can add the list of phrases/keywords you wish to block for your profile. Please login to your Mobicip account >> Settings >> Phrases >> add the keyword/phrase one by one in the box provided and click on 'ADD TO BLOCK LIST'. Any webpage that contains these keywords/phrases in its URL and/or content will be blocked by Mobicip for reason 'Custom Phrases'.

What if I have a local

What if I have a local development (non-routable) domain like site1.local and site2.local and site3.local ?

I'd like to just set *.local as a whitelist instead of manually adding each one.  Just adding "local" results in an error asking for a valid URL.

Re: What if I have a local

We apologize for the delay in responding to your post. Please note that Mobicip is designed to provide filtered access to the external Internet, and Mobicip's filtering is done on the cloud to ensure that the filtering doesn't slow down the device.

This scheme causes problems where you are trying to access the intranet or an internal network. Mobicip has this feature where an entire network can be whitelisted, which only means that Mobicip is disabled when on that network. If setup correctly, Mobicip will function as a plain browser with no filtering whatsoever, much like Safari, and therefore intranet should be accessible on the network. Please see this article for more info:

Wildcards with blacklists

I want to use Wow.com as my browser, and block image and video search.  I entered  search.wow.com/video* and search.wow.com/image in the "blocked website" list and it still returns websites with these url phrases in them.   Any thoughts?
