Didn't block inappropriate app

Forums:

  • Internet Safety Resources

I paid for a premium membersip and set my Childs access to middle school. I specified blocking sexual content but she was still able to install a sexually explicit app on her iPod touch. I'm so upset that she has seen this filth. How is this possible?

We are sorry for the trouble you are having.

If setup correctly, downloading and installing a sexually explicit app should not have been possible. We recommend in our tutorials (to setup Internet filtering and parental controls on the iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad) that you turn off the App Store completely along with Safari and YouTube.

This is because the iOS architecture allows us to only filter the Internet accessed through the Safe Browser app and not through other apps installed from the App Store. Therefore, we ask that you ensure that the Safe Browser is the only window to the Internet on the device.

So what can you do now? Simply delete the offensive app from the device. Then turn off the App Store by selecting Settings > General > Restrictions > Installing Apps > OFF. You can always turn the App Store back on temporarily using your passcode, and lock it again when you or the user is done downloading new apps. That way, you will always know what apps are being installed and if they allow open Internet access.

Please let us know if this answers your question. Otherwise we will be happy to assist further.

Does Mobicip prevent the use of proxy servers on Windows 7?

I purchased Mobicip for my kids' iTouches and has been very pleased with it.  I purchased a more expensive product for our desktop at home and know my teenager is using proxy servers to get around the filtering and reporting to me.  Will Mobicip be able to keep up with the different links that allow kids to get around all the other parental controls on Windows 7?  If so, then I'm buying it!  I would love some help in this area.  If I block port 443, then it will block almost everything and I am trying to figure out what he's up to before the confrontation takes place.  Teenagers!!!

Re: Does Mobicip prevent the use of proxy servers on Windows 7?

We are glad that Mobicip is working well for you on your iOS devices. Mobicip's filter is dynamic and filters content using advanced heuristic mathematical algorithms that dynamically analyze and rate every single website, blog, and page as it is accessed. Having said that, we suggest that you try Mobicip for Windows and see if how it works for you. Please send a note to Mobicip Support and we will set you up with a 30-day trial of our Windows solution that you can use and test on your child's Windows device.

Search engines

Altogether, I would say this is a good app, although it can be a bit TOO restrictive sometimes. Anyways, I have always been a Bing fan, but I notice the search bar in the top-right of the screen is stuck on google. Is there any way to change it to Bing, and if not could you please add this in on a future update? Try to respond soon, I don't want to waste one of my 9 tabs for much longer than a week.

Re: Search engines

Hello Jack,

Thank you for your kind words about Mobicip.

As of now, there is no option to change the default search engine in the Mobicip app. But please note that we are working on our next major update, Mobicip 3.0. This version will provide the option of choosing your default search engine among Google, Yahoo and Bing. We will keep you posted on any updates regarding this version. We appreciate your patience as we work on this.

Didn't block the blacklisted website

I am extremely dissapointed that even after upgrading to premium, mobicip failed to restrict facebook.com from opening.  In my account settings, I had blacklisted www.facebook.com and www.m.facebook.com and both of these sites opened via mobicip browser.  What the heck?  Whats going on here?

Re: Didn't block the blacklisted website

Hello Viren,

We are sorry for the trouble you are having. Please note that it may take up to 30-45 minutes for any change that you make on the web monitor to reflect on the device. Hope this explains the reason for the delay in your customized settings being reflected on the device. Facebook.com should now be blocked by Mobicip.

Please check and let us know if the problem is resolved now. If the issue still persists, please contact Mobicip Support via your registered - email id and we will investigate further asap.
