In all honesty, most of the negative reviews you will find on the App Store are either due to user error or written with malicious intent. This is not to say that there are no legitimate negative reviews, but they are indeed quite rare if you ignore the noise. We do take every single review, legitimate or otherwise, very seriously and do our best to resolve real questions and problems. Before you leave a review on the App Store, please contact support and give us a chance to address your concern.
Why do we not respond to these reviews via the App Store? Apple does not have a mechanism or allow developers to respond to reviews, whether positive or negative. We have tried to address some of the top negative reviews in this FAQ.
@Mnlfish writes - "This required an ANNUAL subscription for use with more than one child. For my three kids it would have cost the initial $4.99 and the another $30.00 PER YEAR! Highway robbery."
Not true. Even non-Premium users can setup multiple child user profiles with different filtering levels during the sign-up process. You can setup the $4.99 app to be used by all three kids for no additional charge, and too forever. If you missed setting up multiple user profiles during sign-up, just shoot an email to support(at)mobicip.com and we will add the profiles for you.
If you wish to customize the filter for each profile and/or monitor activity, yes it does require a Premium subscription per device. Please note the subscription is "per device" and not "per user" as stated above. A service like this does require resources to keep up to date and maintain. We believe it is a fair pricing model where parents and administrators who need the advanced functionality pay for the ongoing services.
@Watch_Out writes - "The real price is US$14.98"
Yes, the reviewer is partly correct in that using all the features offered by Mobicip will require the Premium subscription. But this doesn't mean that the pricing is disclosed only after you download and install the app. The Premium pricing is mentioned on the website and in the iTunes store description. We have no interest in bait-and-switch tactics. If you purchased the Premium subscription in error, you can always request a refund by emailing us at support(at)mobicip.com.
@fritiz writes - "Warning! "All" images are blocked unless you pay additional fees." Is this true?
Absolutely not! Google images is indeed blocked at the Elementary filtering level. This was done based on popular request by parents on the forum. However, it is not necessary to purchase the Premium subscription in order to allow Google images.
Even with a non-Premium account, you can easily change the filtering level and allow Google images. Simply login at www.mobicip.com, select Settings > Users. Click the Edit button and change the filtering level to Middle or High School. Wait about 15 mins for the change to be propagated to the device.
Try again and Google images should now be allowed.
@JenniferB @Soccerchick87 @Brian Griffing write - "The app crashes..."
A crash usually points to instability in the OS or the app. Try to power off/on the device, if that doesn't fix try to delete an reinstall Mobicip.
@Qwerty... writes - "If u get the free google app u won't have parental controls. Useless! Hahahahaha..."
Of course if the Google app is allowed it will be unfiltered. This protection will work only when all other browser apps are blocked and Mobicip is setup as the default browser on the device. You can do this by selecting Settings > General > Restrictions, and turning Safari, YouTube, Installing Apps and Deleting Apps to OFF. Check out the helpdesk for more information and step-by-step tutorials.
@Joshua Pringle writes - "Why does the back button almost always skip pages?"
Some problems with JS-based websites were fixed recently. Please try again now.
Reiterating our humble request, before you leave a review on the App Store, please contact support and give us a chance to address your concern. We would really appreciate the kind gesture.
