Taxonomy upgrade extras:
- In Settings > General > Restrictions, where you disabled Safari, there is an option to disable the installation of any new apps besides the ones that are already installed. Look for 'Installing Apps' on the list and set it to OFF.
Perhaps you can agree on a policy with your child where he/she has to get your permission and authorization to install or purchase an app.

All or nothing?
Submitted by Guest on
I am looking at purchasing this for my husband's and my new iPhones, and am somewhat disappointed to find out that you have to completely disallow downloading of apps in order to block downloading of alternate browsers. Granted, I am just starting to learn about apps and such as these will be our first smartphones, but is there no way to specifically block downloading of browsers while still allowing downloading of apps? Perhaps this is more of an Apple store question - but as a solution, if we were to purchase an app on iTunes, would we be able to install those apps when we sync our phones or would have to turn "on" the ability to install apps first? (Meaning, is this a setting that only applies to apps purchased while using the iPhone, or does it apply to installing apps no matter how it's done?)
Apologies if this is a dumb question. :)

Thank you for your interest in Mobicip. Actually, your's is a very good question. We suggested on our forums that you disable the option 'Downloading apps' to make sure that your kid cannot download an app that has an in-built browser in it, thereby circumventing the parental settings set for him. If you intend to use our app in your's and your husband's iPhone, then you may skip this step. Please note that there is no way to specifically block downloading of browsers alone while still allowing apps download. As you mentioned, this is something to be decided by Apple because the restrictions set by Apple doesn't allow us to run software in the background to control the download of apps/browsers. Hence, we had to create our own browser to provide filtered internet access.
Also, please note that once you have set the option 'Downloading apps' to OFF, you will not be able to download any apps, no matter how it's done - neither through iTunes App store nor through a computer synced with your iPhones. Please let us if we answered all your questions. If not, we will be happy to assist further.
