I just made a $9.99 purchase on Mobicip.com. Do I need to purchase the app from the App Store for $4.99 as well?

Suggestion

I would like to post a possibility.  Everyone on this thread is correct.  It IS NOT very clear (customers) and it IS labeled on the pricing page and in other tutorials (Mobicip employees).  Inside of one minute or so, the customer should be able to know the cost and understand everything.

It is not how smart a person is (although it could be), it's how much time they want to spend on a given topic when they have ten other tasks in their head to do.

So, my suggestion to help both sides is to use explicit words on the bottom of the pricing page in plain text.  if you desire to be fancy and add it to your image(s), that's your call.  But something as such...

**The price of the additional features does not include the price of the Mobicip application.

Done.  This thread wouldn't exist with one sentence added to the pricing page.

BTW, I too thought it was $10 per device for the app and the added features.  I tend to figure things out on my own and only read the manual if I come to a blocking issue.  So I didn't read a single tutorial, just read it's abilities (the history is a big one) and a few threads on other websites before I purchased the premium from the website.  I of course then couldn't find the way to tell iTunes that I already bought the Mobicip app, LOL.

Again, one line of text under those images but above the Facebook advert and this thread wouldn't exist.

Cheers,
Pete

Dear Pete,

Thank you for your valuable feedback. We completely agree with your suggestion and we have requested our marketing/web development teams to evaluate and add the one-liner to our pricing page. We sincerely appreciate feedback from customers like you as it makes us improve our service for all users.

after a simple review of the

after a simple review of the information in this knowledge base, I called mobicip...received a call back within a few minutes and was explained that I would have to purchase the app for $4.99 then I would have to purchase the $9.99 premium per device...no confusion here; just a minor amount of investigation removed any questions on my part.  do a minor amount of homework when making decisions on purchases and you will not be "surprised".

I do admit that mobicip could make things a little more clear, but again, a slight amount of homework on the purchaser's behalf can eliminate any questions about the product or purchasing requirements...

The pricing is NOT as clear as you think it is!

I too followed what I thought were the "step-by-step" instructions on your website and purchased a 'Premium' subscription for two devices.  The pricing matrix on your website seems to indicate that the services in the 4.99 product are INCLUDED with the 9.99 product.  However, only AFTER paying almost $20 for my subscription did I find out that I have to spend another 4.99 per device to get the product I thought I was buying!

You seem to think (judging from your remarks in the thread) that your pricing is clear; but how many people have to make this mistake and tell you that it is NOT CLEAR before you do something about it!

I am VERY frustrated and feel like I just got shafted!  This is NO WAY to start a relationship!

You need to make it VERY CLEAR BEFORE allowing anyone to purchase your subscription, that the product must be purchased and installed separately.

Re: The pricing is NOT as clear as you think it is!

First of all, I apologize for the disappointing experience you have had so far.

You are right. Although we have thousands of users who have purchase and setup Mobicip, we do agree that the pricing can be made even more clear and obvious. Towards this end, we are not only redesigning the pricing page, but also the entire website so that the information is more accessible and understandable.

Please bear with us until we roll out the new website in the next few days.

I don't understand your answer.  If you just paid 9.99 and bought itthrough a laptop for 2 devices,  how do you set it up on those devices?    Believe me, it is not clear.

Re: installaion

We are sorry for the trouble you are having. You need to purchase and install the Mobicip Safe Browser for the premium subscription to work on the device if you plan to use the premium subscription on one of your Apple devices (iPhone/iPad/iTouch, if you plan to use the premium subscription on a Windows device, please scroll down to the last paragraph). Mobicip Safe Browser is priced at $4.99 and is available for purchase on the iTunes app store.  Once you install the app, login using your Mobicip account and the premium subscription will be automatically picked up by the device. We apologize if this was not clear to you. It is described on our website.

Please follow the instructions in this tutorial to setup Mobicip on your iOS devices (iPad/iPod Touch/iPhone):

How to Setup Parental Controls on iPhone & iPod Touch (iOS4 Edition)

How to Setup Parental Controls on the iPad (iOS 4.2 Edition)?

If you bought Mobicip for Windows, then you do not have to purchase the Mobicip Safe Browser. Unlike Mobicip for iOS devices, Mobicip for Windows works in the background and filters internet content from any browser on your Windows device. Please note that the inability to filter other browsers/apps on Apple's devices by Mobicip is due to restrictions set by Apple. Please follow the instructions in this tutorial to setup Mobicip on your Windows device:

How to Setup Internet Parental Controls on Windows 7

Please don't hesitate to send an email to Mobicip Support if you need further guidance in setting up Mobicip on your device.

Pricing is very expensive

We are a school and we have used Mobicip (over 100 iPads) but the cost is very expensive. As a baseline app ($5/user) it is a somewhat effective proxy. However, when compared to other proxy services or proxy server solutions it is very expensive, especially if you want to roll out to hundreds of students. Granular filtering at $10/userbecomes thousands of dollars (plus it is a subscription, so upkeep is also expensive), this current pricing structure is inflexible and very expensive.

K12 schools require more flexibilty at a reasonable cost. Mobicip does not provide this flexibility. Multiple purchases do not lead to a discount. I understand that much is factor into support costs required for supporting multiple devices but typical support for a school is being requested by knowledgeable IT professionals - assume that have already attempted to troubleshoot problems, unlike many home users that really don't understand networking or proxy filtering. Also understand that what happens in a school classroom often times is much different than what occurs in the home livingroom. For example, even if a site may not be CIPA required to be filtered, many schools define filtering based on classroom management or network bandwidth requirements... hence Youtube (other video streaming), gaming, webmail, chat, social networking (etc) are often blocked or heavily filtered, just to keep students on the task of learning... the 3 choices provided by the $5 app is very ineffectual and too simplistic - more basic options need to be provided.

If Mobicip continues the current price/service model, it is clear that we will seek comparable services elsewhere.

Re: Pricing is very expensive

We are sorry that you feel Mobicip's pricing is inflexible. This may not be very clear on our website, but we do offer volume discounts to schools in two forms:

1. Mobicip participates in Apple's Volume Purchase Program for education. Schools enrolled in the program can purchase the Safe Browser app at a 50% discount off the App Store list price.

2. Mobicip works offers volume discounts to schools and enterprises on the Premium subscription as well. The discount is based on the size of your deployment, nature of the project, future plans etc. Please contact support(at)mobicip.com and we will provide you with a customized quote that meets your needs.

Rest assured, we will work with you to accommodate your budget and policy requirements.

It is NOT clear. I purchased

It is NOT clear. I purchased the $4.99 app first on the I-touch, then it blocked everything for my elementary schooler, including toddler sites, now to unblock them I have to go buy the $9.99 service.  I did not see this explained when purchasing the app.  Perturbed.

Re: It is NOT clear. I purchased

We are sorry for the trouble you are having.

Mobicip's filtering policy is based on filtering settings used by US K-12 schools. While this is very effective most of the time, it may be considered too restrictive by parents. For instance, the site you are trying to access may be classified as an online gaming site, which is blocked for the elementary school level. You have 2 options.

1. Simply login at www.mobicip.com, select Settings > Users.

Change the filtering level - step 1

For the particular user profile on this page, click Edit and set the filtering level at Middle School. Most online game websites are allowed at this filtering level. There is no additional charge to make this change.

Change filtering level - step 2

2. By purchasing a Mobicip.com Premium subscription the account owner can configure the filtering to suit your specific requirements. The account owner could add the website to your whitelist, and the site will be allowed.

I agree. Your pricing structure is not clear.

First I purchased the application for $4.99, for MULTIPLE devices.  Then, I upgraded to the premium plan because amazon.com was blocked, only to find out that this purchase was for one device and not for ALL of the devices that were originally covered by the original $4.99 price.  Not happy with this service!

I also purchase the $9.99

I also purchase the $9.99 on my home computer but.. how can i get it to work or download to my doughters itouch????????   please advice. when i go to itunes the store wants me to purchase again?

Re: I also purchase the $9.99

It appears that you have purchased the Mobicip.com Premium service and not the Safe Browser app, please note that these two go together. You will need to purchase the app for $4.99 from the App Store either on the iPod Touch or on the computer, in addition to your purchase of the Premium subscription priced at $9.99. This pricing model is described clearly on our website and displayed as you go through the purchase as well.

However, we apologize if this was not made clear to you before your purchase. Please note that the Premium subscription is optional. If you think you will need only the Safe Browser app and not the Premium subscription, please contact support(at)mobicip.com and we will be happy to refund your purchase.

Pricing

Hello

Thank you for this information.

No it wasn't clearly enough for me neither.

I thought I had only to pay the $4.99 if I wanted to use the iPhone/iPad version.

Please write to the page, that you also have to pay the ä4.99 if you want to use the PC version if it!

Kind regards
Daniel

Re: Pricing

Daniel

Sorry for the enduring confusion. We apologize for the confusion. The pricing model is described here on our website.

Once purchased, the app can be setup on any number of iOS devices in your household for no additional charge. The Premium service is entirely optional.

Mobicip.com Premium allows you to setup custom filtering and monitor Internet activity by logging in at www.mobicip.com from any browser. This is a subscription service priced at US $9.99 per year per device.

I agree- NOT clearly explained on website!

In December I purchased the mobichip @ 4.99 for my son's Itouch - and later had to add the 9.99 premiun so that we could allow certain sites I approve for him.  Now I need to add security to my Iphone, and had forgotten that I needed the 4.99 sub. before the 9.99 premium!  I went directly to your site (not app store) and purchased the premium....it did not work so here I am blogging and wondering why after ALL these comments you do not restructure your site to CLEARLY explain that we need BOTH apps to be in control of what content we want to allow!

The product works well and keeps kids from going where their eyes should not!  Please work on making your sight a wee bit more user friendly and you will have a five star product!

Re: I agree- NOT clearly explained on website!

We sincerely apologize for the trouble you are having. We have requested our web team to look into our product pricing page and make sure that it clearly states that our Premium subscription requires the installation of the Mobicip Safe Browser. We take our user feedback seriously and since we are in the middle of a major website re-vamp, it is taking a little longer to get any short-term fixes on our website.

Regarding the app, please note that you need to purchase the app only once and you can install it on any number of devices in your household. Please follow the instructions below to install the app on your iPhone.

If you use the same iTunes account to sync the devices, you may purchase the Mobicip Safe Browser app only once for $4.99. Sync the devices to iTunes and Mobicip should be installed.

If you have multiple iTunes accounts in your household with each device sync'ed with a unique iTunes account, you can still purchase music and apps once and use it across all the devices. The setup for this is a little more involved. Please follow the instructions in this tutorial from Apple's support website.

Pricing for this app is MISLEADING!!

I have purchased this app as well for my elementary age child to use as well.  He does like youtube, which needs some filtering.  I appreciate the fact that this is supposed to be an app to protect kids, but apparantely more than one person agrees that you all have too much filtering going on for elementary age kids.

I am on the PTO board and know for a fact that the kids can get onto youtube with the filtering set by the standards of the state.  I would like to have a windows version to try but am not excited at all about this.

Re: Pricing for this app is MISLEADING!!

Our filtering policy team has decided to allow Youtube by default for all three filtering levels after we received numerous user requests. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

VERY CONFUSED about your pricing!!!

I have 4 children.  A friend refered me to you.  Child #1 bought the app and it appears to work well.  However, I bought the app for child #2 and it won't let me set anything for this child.  Are you saying I MUST pay $40.00 plus $20 for a total of $60 to protect all 4 iTouches????!!!!!!!?????  Why can't I have 4 kids with the basic settings and features for the $20??? I should be able to set all 4 at their individual levels for the $4.99 I paid/or would be willing to pay for each. It is UNFAIR to only be able to set 1.   I refuse to buy it for the last 2 until you explain this!  Is child #2's itouch protected at all???????????? Or is it stuck with child #1's setting?????? Because there is a VERY LONG distance between the 2!

PLEASE EXPLAIN!
