Feature Requests

Hello,

We have started receiving some feedback from our testers, so I thought I would start a discussion forum for users to add feature requests.  While our initial efforts have been to provide a functioning, yet basic solution to the marketplace, we would love to learn which features our customers want the most; that way we can prioritize which improvements to work on for upcoming releases.  Feel free to add to this thread; while you may not get an immediate response, know that we will be monitoring this thread closely.

Also one more note about the Ability to add Bookmarks to home screen, when you click on the icon on the home screen, we want it to have the ability to open up mobicip browser in full screen just like safari does, thanks.

Ability to add Bookmarks to home screen & relate the browser

I would like to request the following features

1. Ability to add Bookmarks to iPhone home screen like you can in safari when you click on the plus icon to add a site as a bookmark.

2. Ability to relate the mobicip browser as the default browser instead of safari, so that when you click on links within other iPhone applications or when you click on a hyperlink in an email, the mobicip browser comes up and takes you there instead of the link not working because the safari browser has been disabled via restrictions.

Thanks for submitting your requests here.

Apple does not allow us to relate the Mobicip browser to links from other apps. The SDK does have a provision for this, but it has never worked ever since the first version. So there isn't much we can do until Apple resolves that problem. The ability to add bookmarks to the home screen is related to this limitation. We are not given the privileges needed to implement something like this. However, we are working on a visual bookmarks feature where you will be able to save bookmarks as icons, and Mobicip will show these icons when launched.

Full screen browsing is another feature that has been requested by our users. This is a little tricky to implement as it causes a few stability and usability problems. We continue to plug away at these features and will post an update here as soon as they become available.

Your feedback is much appreciated and it really helps us prioritize and tackle these requests one by one.

Time Limits

I would like to have the option to lock my sons Ipod touch from 9pm-7am in the morning.  I have found that he is still going online and using gmail at 10 or 11 pm when I think he is sleeping.  I try to remember to make him leave his ipod downstairs at night when he goes to bed, but sometimes I forget.  This would be a great addition for parents.  Thanks

Yes, sir. The Time Limits feature is almost done and should be rolled out soon. We will post an update on this thread as soon as the feature goes live.

Thanks for your suggestion and feedback. It helps us prioritize what we are working on and benefits all users.

Open New Tabs

I have two polite requests:

-Please enable tabbed browsing

-Please speed up the browser.

I have a naughty husband whom I installed this app on and we paid for the premium service in addition to the app.

Please consider adding those two things and it would be an excellent browser and you would have a very happy customer!

Cheers!

Tabs coming soon

We are actively working on adding tabs to our browser. Please bear with us as we test it thoroughly and roll it out.

Could you give us more details on the speed issue you mention? We have run several benchmarking tests and our conclusion is that the speed in rendering a page is comparable to that of Safari Mobile, even though our progress bar is not as perfect in indicating current progress.

1).  Agree with allowing the kid image to be changed.  Don't base it on the filter level.  First on the list only because it should be a smaller change.

2). The ability to unblock a list of sites.

3).   Email/On Account list of sites visited. All sites - with subcategories like blocked.

4).  Have multiple tabs like Safari

Web tracking rather than filtering?

This service that you are offering is a real blessing.

However, instead of (or in addition to) content filtering, can your app be used for browsing accountability (e.g. non-erasing history, and sending history to trusted partners, a la "Covanent Eyes")?

Such a feature would allow for freer access to the web, but would be automatically tailored to the needs of the users. Kids that knew everything that they surfed to would be seen by their parents would be able to keep themselves safer.

Hi fredd,

Thanks for posting!  Mobicip plans to be a full-service provider across all platforms (smartphones, netbooks, laptops, and computers), so plans are in place to provide a solution for Android-based phones.  Ultimately, we want our users to be able to subscribe to one filtering service which will work regardless of which device is being used.

Make sure you register your email address on our site so you can stay abreast of our progress!  We tentatively anticipate a release date for Android-based devices by March (but don't hold me to that!).

We are interested in your application for our teens, but for the sake of their pride, I would highly recommend you lose the smiley-face icon and use something a bit less primary.  Something vaguely reminiscent of the Safari icon might be good. Sincerely, Jim Ashburn

Filter App Store?

Is there a way to block apps? There are several apps that have an integrated web browser or can do image searches. What is the point of a filtering solution if web searching can still be done from another app?

Hi smpardo,

You bring up a very good point.  Our filtering solution has been developed so that parents have an option to give their kids a safe, alternative browsing experience.  That is the reason why parents must disable Safari in order to maximize the benefit of our filtering solution.  That act will ensure that Mobicip is the only way that their child can access the internet with their device (with all traffic going through our filtered servers).

Now, what about Apps like Google?  There is no real way for us to filter content on other 3rd party applications.  The only thing that i can suggest is to also disable the App Store in addition to Safari.  This is an option that Apple provides on the device itself.  Maybe you could institute a rule where your child can only install applications with parental approval.

Here's a screenshot of all the different applications you can disable through the device itself.  I hope this answers your question!

some feature ideas...

I've been using this browser for a little over a week and it has worked very well so far. Here are some feature requests that I feel would improve the functionality: 1. add a 'history' list 2. remember the website the user was browsing when the application was exited. When the application is launched, it will bring the user back to the same site.

Thanks kyfucious!

These are all features that we are looking to add in future releases of our application (after Apple approves us, of course).  It's good to hear from our testers that the application has been working well!  We wanted to create a "basic" version with the important aspects completed for submission; now, we can focus on the features that our customers are asking for.

Thanks for the comment!  It helps us to prioritize what work needs to be done to make this application better and more robust.

Features and where is the app?

I registered but can't find the app to download! Where can I get it? Anyway, I'd like to see filters for explicit sexual, profanity, bloody violence in voice, and moving pictures (from songs, video websites, etc.). It is best if the app is transparent in views of the kids. Thanks. Lay.

Thanks for the comment

Hi laye,

Our application is still under review by Apple.  There are multiple categories that our filter supports.  The initial free version will come with preset categories that will be filtered, depending on the filtering level chosen (elementary, middle, or high school).  Upcoming versions will include a premium edition where users will have more flexibility in choosing which categories to block, as well as more customization for their blacklists/whitelists.

Keep checking back and we'll make an announcement the second our app is available in the App Store.  If you've registered, you should receive an email announcement from us as well.

Thanks,

Gene

Localisation?

Found this when I started looking for a parental control solution to my twelve-year-old-kid-with-an-iPod-Touch problem.  Will this app be localised?  Our maternal language is French, and I've been volunteering for various localisations over the years, so don't hesitate to ask.
