Taxonomy upgrade extras:
Unfortunately, we are continuing to have issues with accessing BBC iPlayer through the Safe Browser, this despite setting up a UK server. According to BBC's guidelines, setting up operations in UK is the legal way to resolve the issue. We are getting some help from users to troubleshoot the problem, so please bear with us and we will try and resolve it asap.
If you are a tech-savvy user, live in the UK, and wish to help, please do email support(at)mobicip.com and let us know.

Any update please?

My kids use iplayer to watch their favourite programs, so this is preventing me from using Mobicip, I imagine there are a few people in a similar situation who would start using your browser f this could be resolved...

Ok. We have good news and bad news.
Bad news first. We have been trying to get in touch with the BBC iPlayer team to resolve this issue. But it appears that BBC itself is quite unsure about how to handle such requests from 3rd party developers like us. Without their support in at least answering our questions, we are not able to resolve this issue.
However, the good news is that BBC Worldwide has launched its own iPhone / iPad app on the App Store. The BBC News app provides news stories as well as embedded videos that play using the iPlayer streaming service. The app may not be the equivalent of iPlayer, but you should definitely try it out.
Here is a link to the BBC News app on iTunes - http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/bbc-news/id364147881?mt=8.
Meanwhile we are hoping that BBC relaxes the rules for viewing content from outside the UK sometime soon. We will certainly keep you posted if we make progress on this front.

This is a weird workaround, but it might just work. There are some single website browsers available for free on the App Store. For instance, CloudApp2 allows access to a single website that is entered into its settings page. It is only useful when the single website visited has its own internal navigation scheme, like BBC iPlayer for instance. CloudApp2 is a free download from the App Store.
Could you please try this:
1. Download CloudApp2 from the App Store.
2. Go to Settings > CloudApp2, and set the URL to
http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/
3. Launch CloudApp2 and see if iPlayer is usable from this browser.
If this works, then you can have your kids use the CloudApp2 app to access BBC iPlayer, and Mobicip for the rest of the Internet, ensuring they are within the boundaries of acceptable use.
Please try this and let us know if it works. We will try to get word out to other users in the UK who may have a similar need.

CloudApp as a workaround for BBC iPlayer
Submitted by Guest on
I have tested the CloudApp and it worked (note not CloudApp2 as this was not available).
You need to creat an account on the suppliers website and enter the BBC iPlayer URL as a bookmark on the settings page. When you open the CloudApp on the iPod Touch you see the bookmark URL which you need to select and open iPlayer.
Good workaround but would like to know once mobicip find a technical solution.
There is no app called CloudApp!!

Yes, you are right. Apple decided to retire such apps that have little or duplicated functionality.
The only workaround we can recommend is that you download the Bookmarks-Only-Browser (b.o.b) from the App Store (or click the link below). This is a free app that allows your child to visit only the websites that are stored as bookmarks within the browser. The bookmarks are in turn protected by a password. Simply add the BBC iPlayer website as a bookmark and use this app to access BBC alone.
Please bear with us and we will continue to work on a good solution to this problem.
